Problem Solving
Problem-solving is a mental process that involves discovering, analyzing and solving problems. The ultimate goal of problem-solving is to overcome obstacles and find a solution that best resolves the issue.
Problem-solving is mainly associated with the cognitivist learning theory as the students are explicitly taught specific cognitive strategies. It helps student to promote students’ higher-order thinking skills such as logic, reasoning, pattern recognition and strategies. When they go through the program (problem-solving), they gradually move from simple trial-and-error to more logical and systematic thinking processes.
